Nothing welcomes the holidays, and your guests, like a beautiful wreath on your door. This symbol of peace is one of the best loved of the season and one of the easiest to make yourself.
You will need pine boughs, a wire base (you can find a wire base at almost any craft or department store), floral tape or thin wire.
Cut your pine boughs into smaller pieces, the size depending on how large or small you want your wreath to be. Beginning at the top of base, tape or wire a few pine boughs at a time to your base. Continue this process, overlapping branches to face the same direction as you go (in one sense you will be working backwards as you fasten layer upon layer). When you have completely filled your base, attach a piece of wire for hanging to the top.
Now comes the fun part. To decorate your wreath you can choose a variety of items. If you choose to be traditional you can simply attach a big red bow. You can make a lighted wreath by winding tiny, battery operated Christmas lights through the pine. The lights can be found in any department store.
If you want your wreath to have a theme, such as gardening or snowmen, simply gather together small objects that represent that theme and wire them to the wreath. Many people like to add pinecones and hollyberries, both readily availabe attached to picks at floral or craft stores. Tiny gingham bows scattered in the branches also makes a festive touch.
However you choose to decorate your wreath, enjoy making it... and have a blessed holiday season.
