It always seems like the day before Christmas is the time to do the shopping for the people that you have no idea what to give. It's a horrible feeling wandering through the stores looking at the items that were picked over and still not knowing what to get. I started seeing this guy last year and I felt bad not giving him something for his parents since they welcomed me into their home but what do you give people that you barely know? My grandmother gave me the best solution of all; a Christmas wreath. It is something that comes from the heart, is very easy to make and takes very little money and time.
The materials can be found around the house or are very cheap to find. An old wire hanger is going to be the outline for the wreath. When holding the hanger, take the straight part on the bottom and pull it down and then shape the hanger in a circle. Once you are happy with the form, which I am sure can be just about anything, then find a two inch by two inch piece of cardboard and which ever color of yarn you would like the wreath to be. When all of that is gotten, take one end of the yarn and wrap it around the piece of cardboard until you have 23 rows or yarn side by side on the cardboard. When that is finished, cut the yarn at the end of the 23rd row, carefully slide the rows bunched together to the right and off the cardboard, take the last row of yarn and wrap it around your bunch of yarn. Then tie so that you have what looks like a bow tie of yarn. Make about one hundred of these and then you can start tying the bows to the hanger. to tie the bow to the hanger, take a two-inch piece of yarn and wrap it around the bow and then tie to the hanger, cut any excess yarn off. You will then be able to decide depending on the size of the hanger and the shape you have made it if you need more bows or not. Since I like very full wreaths I use a lot of bows. Once you have the bows secured on the hanger you will able to see the beginnings of the wreath. Now you can chose whatever you want to decorate it. Some examples are lacy red bows, little boxes wrapped in wrapping paper, candy canes, or baby things, it really depends on the occasion you are using it for.
As you can see this wreath can be fun and take very little time. My thirteen-year-old daughter loves to make them for just about any occasion, and they are really great presents. Since not many people know how to do them, they are a rare gift but can look very classy if the occasion calls for it.
